What is therapeutic massage?
Unlike a general relaxation massage, a therapeutic session is built around a goal. Your therapist works on the muscles and connective tissue related to your complaint, using pressure and techniques suited to that area and to your comfort.
How it fits with chiropractic care
Tight muscles can pull on joints, and stiff joints can make the muscles around them tighten. Addressing both tends to work better than either alone. Because the therapists work in the same office as the chiropractors, they know what your plan is and what your provider found.
What to expect
- A short conversation about your symptoms, health history and goals
- Focused work on the agreed areas, with pressure adjusted to your feedback
- Suggestions for stretching, heat or activity afterward
Sessions are 30 minutes ($50) or 60 minutes ($100).
Who commonly books it?
Patients with neck and back pain, tension headaches or jaw tension, and people recovering from whiplash or sports injuries.
Your therapist
Kim Frey (Florida massage therapist license MA56487) has 17 years of experience and works alongside the chiropractic team, so soft-tissue work supports your overall plan.
When massage may not be appropriate
Tell your therapist about any medical conditions, medications, recent surgery or injuries. Massage is generally avoided over areas of infection, open wounds, recent fractures or suspected blood clots. In some situations you may need a physician’s clearance first.
Where it is offered
At our Brandon office, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It is not offered at the Tampa office.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a chiropractic patient to book a massage?
No. You can book a massage on its own. If you are not a chiropractic patient, call the office to book. Current patients can book online or by phone.
How is this different from deep tissue massage?
Therapeutic massage describes the goal. Deep tissue describes a firmer style of pressure, which may or may not be right for your problem. Your therapist will recommend what fits.
Will I be sore afterward?
Mild soreness for a day is possible, especially after focused work. Drinking water and gentle movement help.
How much is a massage?
30 minutes is $50 and 60 minutes is $100. The practice is self-pay and does not bill insurance.
