What changes with age
Joints tend to stiffen, the discs between the vertebrae lose height, and balance can become less reliable. The feet and hands can lose sensation. These changes are common, but pain, dizziness and numbness are still worth having checked.
Older adults commonly seek care for:
- Numbness, tingling or burning in the feet or hands
- Dizziness and balance problems
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Low back pain and sciatica
- Shoulder pain and knee pain
- Headaches
Gentle by design
Many older patients are wary of having their neck twisted. With an Advanced Orthogonal adjustment, that does not happen. You lie on your side, and an instrument delivers a light impulse behind the ear. Other low-force techniques are also used here, including a small hand-held adjusting instrument and a table that gently stretches the low back. See chiropractic care for the full list.
Depending on what the evaluation finds, your care may also include:
- Class IV laser therapy, commonly used for neuropathy and joint pain
- Neuromuscular re-education to retrain posture and movement
- Therapeutic massage and assisted stretching
What to tell us at your first visit
Bring a list of your medications. Tell us about osteoporosis, joint replacements, blood thinners, a pacemaker or other implant, and any recent surgery. These affect which techniques are appropriate for you.
Care here adds to the care of your physicians. It does not replace it. If your symptoms call for a medical workup, we will say so.
Paying for care
Natural Healing of Tampa Bay is a self-pay practice with posted prices. For adults, the new patient visit is $325 and includes the first adjustment. Neck X-rays are $35 and follow-up visits are $100. See fees and payment.

Frequently asked questions
Is chiropractic care appropriate for older adults?
Care is adapted to your age, bone health and medical history. Before any treatment begins, your provider screens for conditions that call for a different technique or a referral.
Will my neck be twisted or cracked?
Not with an Advanced Orthogonal adjustment, which uses an instrument instead of a manual thrust. Any other technique is explained first and adapted to your comfort.
Can laser therapy help neuropathy?
Class IV laser therapy is commonly used as supportive care for neuropathy, and results vary. The cause of neuropathy needs a medical diagnosis, and care here adds to your physician’s care. See neuropathy.
How many visits will I need?
It varies with your condition and how you respond. You will get an estimate at your evaluation.
